The National Road Safety Council, in collaboration with stakeholders in the sub-sector, is organizing a High-Level Conference in Windhoek 02-03 October 2017, bringing together road safety experts, stakeholders, and policymakers to share on progress made in implementing road safety initiatives over the past two years. The Honorable Minister of Works and Transport will be the Keynote Speaker, with the fellow speakers which includes the governor of the Khomas Regions, Honorable Laura McLeod-Katjirua, the Chairman of the National Road Safety Council, Eliphas !Owos-Oab and the Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga.
The objective of this Conference is to look at the implementation of the resolutions from the 5th Annual Road Safety Conference and find a way to align road safety programmes and activities to the targets set out for the sub-sector in the Fifth National Development Plan.
Recent road safety statics have shown that the number of fatalities on Namibian roads has not improved, and meeting the target of having the number of road deaths by 2020 is becoming increasingly challenging. This conference, bringing together key stakeholders, regional Governors, researchers and academics in an opportunity to discuss the current state of play in road safety, and the way forward to reduce the number of road deaths and serious injuries. Participants will have the opportunity to share their knowledge, exchange best practices, and discuss ways to continue improving road safety in Namibia.
Stakeholders will gather at this occasion of the 6th Annual Road Safety Conference with the aim of proposing actions to improve road safety in Namibia over the following 2 years. The conference will be held in a participatory form encouraging open discussions around the key pressing points as regards road safety in Namibia. The stakeholders are also expected to contribute where impact can be maximized for better results. The conclusions from this Conference will be presented to the line Minister, Honorable Alpheus !Naruseb.
Each stakeholder is expected to present on the implementation of previous conference resolutions. The Conference starts on Monday, 02 October 2017 and ends on Tuesday, 03 October 2017 at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino.
