Official Launch of the 2025/2026 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC), in collaboration with key road safety stakeholders, officially launched the 2025/2026 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign during the inauguration of the newly upgraded Okapuka Road Traffic Checkpoint. The campaign is held under the theme “Do the Right Thing and Save Lives,” emphasising the importance of responsible road behaviour during the festive season, a period typically associated with increased travel and a higher risk of road crashes.

The official launch took place on Thursday, 20 November 2025, bringing together government officials, law enforcement agencies, and road safety stakeholders committed to improving road safety across Namibia. The campaign marks the beginning of coordinated nationwide road safety interventions aimed at reducing road crashes, injuries, and fatalities during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

Delivering one of the keynote addresses, Honourable Lucia Iipumbu, Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security, urged all road users to prioritise safety while travelling. She emphasised the importance of adhering to traffic regulations, practising responsible driving behaviour, and remaining vigilant on the roads in order to protect the lives of all road users during the festive season.

Also present at the event was Honourable Veikko Nekundi, Minister of Works and Transport, together with Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, Inspector-General of the Namibian Police. The dignitaries participated in a guided tour of the upgraded Okapuka Road Traffic Checkpoint, where they observed the facility’s improved infrastructure, advanced monitoring equipment, and enhanced operational capacity, aimed at strengthening road traffic enforcement.

As part of the 2025/2026 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign, the National Road Safety Council will deploy its teams to strategic roadblocks and checkpoints across Namibia to conduct road safety awareness and education activities. These engagements will focus on promoting responsible road behaviour and encouraging compliance with traffic regulations among motorists, passengers, and pedestrians.

Through these deployments, the NRSC team will engage directly with road users in high-risk travel corridors nationwide, reinforcing key road safety messages and encouraging safe and responsible driving practices during the festive travel period.

The 2025/2026 Festive Season Road Safety Campaign will run from 20 November 2025 to 16 January 2026, bringing together government institutions, law enforcement agencies, and road safety stakeholders in a collective effort to promote safer roads across Namibia.

Through continued road safety education, enforcement visibility, and stakeholder collaboration, the National Road Safety Council remains committed to reducing road crashes and saving lives on Namibia’s roads.
